The library and Documentation centre of the National Institute has been acting as a resource and learning centre to meet the information needs of its clientele, including faculty/staff members, Ph.D. scholars, MEAD students of the NIEPA, research scholars from India and abroad, and participants of various national/ international training/diploma programmes organized by the National Institute, and other visiting faculty and users.
It is no exaggeration to state that the NIEPA library is one of the best and finest education libraries in the world due to its collection, and resources. The library is equipped with modern teaching and learning aids, computer facilities and electronic facilities such as Wi-Fi. All in-house activities in the library, including Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation and Serials Control are fully computerized using LMS e-Granthalaya developed by NIC.

Library & DC Layout and Floor Plan :

NIEPA library is located within the main building of the institute. The library consists of three floors along with DC:


  • First Floor: Reference desk, Membership desk, Circulation desk, Librarian's office, WEB OPAC, INFLIBNET Research Corner, IKS Books Corner, Reading Hall, Books stacks, and Current periodicals display racks. The library has its entrance from the first floor.

  • Ground Floor: Reading Hall, bound periodical stacks, books stacks, Light reading magazines display rack, Processing sections, Photocopying section.

  • Second Floor: Reading Hall, Theses and Dissertations Corner, and Reference books stacks.

Library Membership :

NIEPA Faculty, MAED students/Ph.D. scholars, and participants of various national/international programmes organized by the institute as registered members are allowed to use the library. The library generates library membership ID for user using LMS e-Granthalaya.


Library Collection :

The collection development is a core activity of the library. It has undergone remarkable changes in the last decade due to increasing demands of users for e- Resources. NIEPA library has also changed its collection development strategy. The library currently subscribes to over 95% of its journals in both print and online formats. However, the books are still preferred in print only.

The NIEPA library has a rich collection of books, journals, and e-resources on educational planning and management. Besides, Library also has a good and unique country collection of books in the areas of education and its allied disciplines. The library also subscribes to many light reading magazines along with daily newspapers in Hindi and English. It caters to the needs of enrolled students, faculty members, alumni, staff and retired employees of the institute. The new arrivals are displayed and publications of the institute are also displayed separately.

The Documentation Centre also has very important national and international reports and surveys on education which are needed for educational research and policy – making. The centre holds a rich collection of theses, and dissertations of NIEPA’s M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes and other universities, dissertations of Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration (PGDEPA) and International Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration (IDEPA).


e-Resources :

All e-Resources are subscribed by the NIEPA library for academic purpose only and exclusively restricted to the authorized users of the Institute. It can be searched, browsed and material may be downloaded and printed as single copies of articles as is done in the case of printed library material.

NIEPA Library provides a Remote Access facility of subscribed e- Resources through VPN. All faculty members, researchers, and students can access to the library e-resources from outside the campus, anywhere, anytime from the library web page.

The library's WEB OPAC can be accessed on the Intranet and Internet through a web-based search interface. It facilitates browsing and searching the databases of books, journals and articles available in the NIEPA library.

Vision:

All education documents in one place in soft version -- this is the purpose of the Digital Repository of Education Documents being developed and housed in NIEPA. This digital archives/repository provides access to all education documents under one roof, so that no researcher, policy planner and policy analyst needs to go anywhere else.

Profile:

The digital archives would be a major source for reference and research on all aspects,sectors and levels  of education system since independence .it would be an authentic source of indormation based for formulation

Technology:

The digital archive uses latest ICT for design (including high- end  fully automatic digital scanner),storage and retrieval of digital documents .Digital Repository Manadgement Software --Dspace--- is being used with multiple search options like  author, title,subject,keywords,place,year,etc.

Access:

The documents in the digital archives will be accesible  to all users through the intranet at NIEPA.All users will be able to get a feel of the range and  the variety of  the documents in the digital archives as well as get access to the full documents.by regestring themselves.

Roadmap:

The digital archives aims to generate a Community of Users as a extended face of NIEPA.The digital archives would have provisions for periodic interactions with the Registered Users for feedback and suggestions for its further development.
